Up for bid is a JC Higgins Model 29 (583-2900) .22 rifle; also known as a High Standard Model 29 rifle. Sears sold many of these brands marketed under the JC Higgins name and this particular one was manufactured by High Standard. These are chambered for 22LR only.

It has a two piece walnut stock and the forearm wood protrudes back over the receiver and connects to the butt stock. The stocks are uniquely contoured with fine detail; the wood does have some dings and scratches but I think it still looks really well for its age. It has a JC Higgins serrated hard rubber butt plate. The bluing on the barrel and magazine tube is very nice and shows no major wear or loss, just minor handling marks. These models are mechanically sound and are known to be accurate. This one has been for me. See below for more specifics:

  • 24" Blued Barrel
  • Blued Magazine Tube
  • Blued Receiver
  • Stainless Bolt
  • Stainless Bolt Handle
  • Blued Trigger Guard
  • Walnut Stock
  • Capacity 18+1
  • Hard Rubber Butt Plate
  • Using the iron sights I've been pinging my spinner and bell targets at approximately 25-30 yards. I settled on Federal Automatch ammo and it cycles great. There is not a serial number but based upon research/reading this Model was manufactured from March 1954 to November 1956.

The barrel and bore are in very good condition. I’ve waxed and polished the stock and overall it looks good. I’ve cleaned the gun with Gun-scrubber, inspected the springs and buffer, and lightly oiled the appropriate internal springs and promise the firearm is in good working condition.

Make sure it's legal in your jurisdiction before you bid. It is the buyer's responsibility to make sure that the gun they purchase is legal in their state. This firearm must ship to a FFL-please make sure that your chosen FFL can accept shipments from an individual seller; if I need to use a FFL to ship to you there will be an additional $25 charge. Please no sales to any state where purchase of this firearm is prohibited by law. No sales to Alaska/Hawaii.

I can provide more pictures or answer any additional questions you may have. I'm a "working stiff" but promise to get it shipped out quickly once I receive your payment and FFL information. This is a “no reserve” auction and the high bidder wins.

Thanks for taking a look at my firearm and I wish you well in your shopping.
