This is a used LC Smith Ideal Grade 12 gauge Side lock side by side with 30" barrels. The chambers are for 2-3/4" shells. This double gun is a two trigger ejector set up. This double gun was made 1922 with serial number RE46743. The chokes measure the right barrel at .028 (Full) and the left barrel at .028 (Full). The barrels are all original finish and are in excellent condition. The receiver has lost its case color. There is lots of original blue on trigger guard. The barrels lock up and face solidly. There is no movement in the barrel to action lock up. The stock and fore arm wood and checkering has a professional restoration and have a nice soft hand oil finish. The finish is done so nice that the pours of the finish are drawn into the wood. The stock is an upgrade walnut. The stock measures: LOP 14", drop at comb front 1-7/8",drop at comb center 2-1/2" and the drop at heel 2-7/8". Here is some information taken from the LC Smith collectors website on the "IDEAL GRADE": The Hunter Arms Company advertised the Ideal Grade as a "general purpose" gun with "just enough engraving to make it attractive." The locks were engraved with a simple oak leaf design. The trigger guard and frame had additional, but minimal, engraving. L.C. SMITH was roll-stamped on the lock plates. In 1913, the Ideal Grade was regularly available with London Steel barrels, but it could be ordered with Damascus Steel barrels. Barrel lengths were 26, 28, 30, and 32 inches, and they could be bored from cylinder to full choke. The right barrel was roll-stamped L.C. SMITH IDEAL GRADE while the left was marked THE HUNTER ARMS CO. FULTON, N.Y. Gauges were 10, 12, 16, and 20, and .410 was available later. The 1913 price with two triggers was $37.50. A Hunter One-Trigger added $20 to the price. A gun with ejectors was $49, and one with both ejectors and a Hunter One-Trigger was $69. In 1945, the base price for the Ideal Grade was $87. Between 1913 and 1945, Hunter Arms Company manufactured 21,862 Ideal Grade shotguns. The combined production figures for the period of 1912 through 1950 show a total of 26,686 Ideal Grades separated into the categories of 205 10-gauge, 18,130 12-gauge, 4,460 16-gauge, 3,659 20-gauge, and 232 .410 shotguns.
