I am a gunsmith with over 50 years experience, and I am finally downsizing my collection. This 1777 Charleville has been in my collection for many years. The reason I kept it is because it shows the transition from the flintlock era to the percussion era as modified by a gunsmith after about 1820 and probably before 1840. I am certain it was used as a fowling gun. Somewhere along the way the barrel was drilled to ensure it remained a display gun. Other than not knowing when this hole was drilled- I am certain this gun has sat unfired and untouched since the civil war days. The lock piece is in excellent shape. The wood was never sanded and the shortened stock had to have been done before the Civil War. The wooden ram rod is probably original to the gun as a fowling gun. Please check out the pictures and judge condition for yourself. I do my best to describe items as accurately as possible. If you have any questions please ask and I will do my best to answer them. We ship all long guns USPS Parcel Post with insurance and delivery confirmation after payment has cleared. All guns are required to be shipped to a FFL license holder. There is a 10% restocking fee on all returns. No refunds on shipping. All Oklahoma residents are required to pay a 9.15% sales tax. We accept Visa or MasterCard or USPS Money Orders. All card transactions are required to pay an extra 3.6% fee.
