I am starting to retire and downsize my collection after 50 years of gunsmithing. This is the finest untouched very early original percussion smallest caliber rifle I have ever owned. It is marked W.S Brown Pittsburgh. On the top of the barrel it is marked T.A.M. The bore is octagon shaped and measures .295 from flat to flat. The exterior of the barrel measures .850 from flat to flat. The is absolutely no signs of being tinkered with, improved, or altered in any way. There is a replacement section of wood starting on both sides of the muzzle and continuing back for about 8-9 inches. (I tried to show this in the pictures) This may have been done to repair a wood defect at the time the stock was made or shortly after. The wood is thin along the barrel at that section. The ends of the replacement wood is securely contained under the nose cap. I suspect that the wood was cracked in drying out after being shaped and while inletting the barrel. The stock shows no signs of ever being sanded and patina is uniform from end to end. The stock has very nice tiger stripes from end to end. The entire gun measures 60". I would not hesitate to clean the original nipple and fire this gun. The lock mechanism is excellent and the double set triggers are finely tuned. Please check out the pictures and judge condition for yourself. I do my best to describe items as accurately as possible. If you have any questions please ask and I will do my best to answer them.
