Mills & Orndorff 100rd. Cartridge Belt, Double Loop Pattern (1894): At the beginning of the Spanish-American War, Mills had trouble keeping up with demand with cartridge belts, so two other contractors were brought in to fill the gap, Hurlburt and Spalding. The Mills & Orndorff belts were of much higher quality than the Spalding belts. The Mills belts have the loops woven into the belt itself as opposed to being sewn on as they were for the Spalding and the Hurlburt belts. The Mills belts used a much heavier weight canvas than did the Spalding belts. The ends of the Mills belts have brass riveted onto them to prevent fraying; these brass ends have the Mills & Orndorff name stamped on them along with various patent dates (the latest date being Sept. 11, 1894). This Mills double loop belt measures roughly 3 inches wide and 48 inches long and is adjustable. It has its original drab/khaki color and still has both of its two brass keepers present on the belt for adjustment. Belt’s only marking is on the inside of the belt and is the numeral in black “8”. There is a little wear around the ends of a few of the loops; overall the Item is in Fine condition. This is an honest, nice example. Use it to complete your 30/40 rifle, your collection, or display it. Thank you for looking!!!
