THIS IS AN ORIGINAL JAPANESE MEDAL AND IN EXCELLENT CONDITION...THIS IS ONE OF THE BETTER QUALITY MEDALS...IT WAS MADE February 1929 by Yamasaki Shoten,IT IS HALL MARKED ON THE SUSPENSION POST WITH A "Y"... .Emperor Hirohito (the Showa Emperor) actually ascended to the throne upon the death of his father in 1926. The enthronement ceremonies, though, were held in 1928. This medal commemorates that event, and it was freely issued to people throughout the country who participated in the celebration ceremonies. Peterson notes that some medals were struck in sharper relief, and this is indeed true. The small gold mum crest is an attached piece. OBVERSE: Imperial throne. 'Banzai' written below. Cherry and orange blossoms comprise the surrounding ring. REVERSE: Cloud shapes. Inscribed 'Showa 3 [1928] November, Enthronement Commemorative Medal.'
