Built February 1949 at Royal Ordinance Factory Fazakerly (Liverpool).

I bought this wonderful old bolt-action about 20 years ago, sighted it in once, and hunted with it once. It’s been a safe queen ever since.

Rifle is just as I bought it:

  • Matching serial number on receiver, bolt handle, and magazine.
  • L-flip battle/micrometer rear sight (not the stamped version)
  • Good furniture for its age
  • Brass trapdoor buttplate
Sale also includes an Uncle Mike’s sling, 2 chargers/stripper clips, and a partial box of .303 British

For a ~70-year-old battle rifle that could have seen service in Korea, Egypt, Malaya, Kenya, or a number of other hotspots, it’s in good shape.

Black paint is flecked and missing in places. Bore is darker with some pitting, but the lands and grooves are strong; I remember it shooting fine. There is also some wear on the right side of the receiver, from the charger bridge forward to the point indicated by the knife blade in the photo.

This is a fantastic piece of history, ready to join your collection or take any large game in North America.

More than 25 photos. Happy to take more if you need them!

Model/serial marks read: No4 MKI (F) 2/49 PF83745

Summary: Good condition, the rifle shows no post-service refinish and is likely in as-issued condition. Stoving has some flaking, but there is no external rust or pitting on any metal component. Markings are legible and all metal parts are matching. Bore is dark but rifling is good. The furniture is in good condition with normal dings (standard battle condition) and no cracks.
