This mount base is at least 25 years old and was used then on the model 83. A "projection" is milled in the stainless steel to fit exactly in the slot when the iron sight is removed. It obviously withstood the tremendous recoil of the 454. Only problem was that the space allowed did not offer much adjustment in turret location. With this "Buehler Type" mount, the scope/rings could be removed and returned and still stay sighted in. I have removed this base (to put iron sight back on), reinstalled it, put the scope back on and it was still perfectly on target. Freedon quit making it because of limited adjustments and cost. Now others, like Leupold, make it with an "extension" either rear or front, to improve adjustments. Please contact me with any questions. "BUY NOW" gets FREE USPS Priority shipment.
