LSB#: 170531JG01

Make: Winchester

Model: 70

Serial Number: 101244

Year of Manufacture: Mid-1949 (http://proofhouse.com/win/index.html)

Caliber: .30-06 Springfield

Action Type: Bolt Action, Internal Magazine Fed Rifle

Markings: The left of the barrel is marked "MADE IN NEW HAVEN CONN. U.S. OF AMERICA / WINCHESTER PROOF STEEL / WINCHESTER / TRADE MARK / MODEL 70-.30 GOVT'06", with "WP" in oval on the left by the breech, repeated on top of the receiver. The left of the receiver is marked "WINCHESTER / TRADE MARK", the right has the serial number, found again hand scribed on the bolt body.

Barrel Length: 24"

Sights / Optics: The front sight is a beaded blade, set into a ramp base that is missing the hood. There is an odd screw-set block filling the rear dovetail. The frame is mounted with a one-piece Redfield base and a Leupold 2-7x VARI-X IIc. The scope has a little but of surface marking but is still "Leupold Clear".

Stock Configuration & Condition: The walnut stock has a pistol grip and two swivels installed. The forend and grip are checkered. A lot of original finish is retained and the checkering remains sharp. There are a number of dings, marks and scratches, but less than would be expected from 1949... The buttplate is checkered steel, with about 80% finish retained. The LOP measures 13 1/4" from the front of the serrated trigger to the back of the plate. The wood fit to the metal is exceptional. The stock rates in Fine overall condition.

Type of Finish: Blue

Finish Originality: Factory Original

Bore Condition: The bore is a little dirty but generally bright, the rifling is still sharp.

Overall Condition: This rifle retains about 90% of its finish. The surfaces have light signs of use, limited to thinning on the bolt handle, trigger guard & floorplate. The rifle shows very little wear and probably spent the majority of its life in storage. The screw heads are mildly tooled. The markings are crisp. Overall, this rifle rates in about Fine condition.

Mechanics: The action functions correctly. The trigger has mild take up before a clean snappy break. The bolt glides without issue. We did not fire this rifle. As with all previously owned firearms, a thorough cleaning may be necessary to meet your maintenance standards.

Box, Paperwork & Accessories: Scope, Sling & swivels

Our Assessment: You are bidding on a pre-64 Winchester Model 70 in .30-06 Springfield and with a lot of its finish. It is mounted with a perfectly suited and high quality scope. The bore is still tight enough to hit center at a couple hundred yards. This fairly early rifle is still in high enough condition to be considered collectible; the hunters will have some competition... Please see our pictures and Good Luck.

CA Legal or CA Private Party Transferable: This C&R rifle can be transferred/sold in California.
