This beautiful Prussian Charles Daly was made in July of 1928 sometime after Lindner stopped making guns for Daly. It has much shorter and deeper scallops in the frame and features a Greener cross-bolt as well as double underlugs, 28” Krupp Flussstahl barrels with MOD and IM chokes (fixed) and 2-3/4” chambers, large front and small mid ivory beads on a slightly concave matted rib, side clips, very nice, tight and precise floral scroll engraving with a few geometric details here and there and finely chased shaded panels atop the frame and lever, cocking indicators, auto safety, beautifully figured satin finished walnut stocks with meticulously executed 28 LPI checkering, horn forend tip inlay and the butt is grooved in the middle with smooth toe and heel. Drops are 1-1/2” & 2-1/8” while LOP is 14-1/16” & 13-1/16” and weight comes in at 6 pounds, 1 ounce with the balance point about 1” forward of the hinge (perfect for the 28” tubes). It was made by a maker with initials AH. There were several top-flight makers in the Suhl region during the period with those initials, one of which was Alfred Hertlein; the maker of the famed Halger hyper velocity rifles (though we’re not asserting it was of his manufacture). The design, weight, balance, and quality of this gun indicate having been made by an exceptional house whoever it was. Barrels and stocks were professionally restored by the most highly respected shops in New England while the frame, guard, top lever, tangs and forend iron are mostly silver-gray patina with some blue on the guard and lever and a few hints of case color in protected areas on the frame and tangs– no evidence of cleaned oxidation in any form. The bores are 99% perfect mirrors with just very slight evidence of polished out pitting. The stocks are fee of new handling marks with the memories of a few old ones noticeable beneath the finish. The barrels ring perfectly while lock-up is 100% on-face and tight as a bank vault (tested with the forend removed) with the lever coming to rest to the right of center. Auto safety and cocking indicators work perfectly. The tang shows no evidence of having been straightened and we think this gun was probably originally made with a straight grip which would be unusual for a Daly of the period. Please note that the dried grease or slight oxidation near the serial number on the water table is much more pronounced in the photos than “in person”. This gun is one of those that we don’t want to let go (my wife, of course, has suggested otherwise pointing out that I just treated myself to a new SAA – wish I’d seen this first). We bend every effort to describe items honestly, fully and correctly. Please check our feed back to see what our past customers have to say about our descriptions.

Our Photos:
Our close up, high contrast photographs frequently reveal much more than you can see with the naked eye. Dust, lint, dried grease and minute flaws are magnified greatly making things look worse than they do “in person”. Please see our feedback where you will frequently find “better than pictured” and “better than described”. Also: The photos you see in a listing are of the actual item in that particular listing - we don’t use stock photos.

Check with your local FFL to see if the item is allowed in your area. No firearms have been tested and are strictly sold “as is” for collector purposes. All firearms should be checked by a competent gunsmith. Antique firearms can be shipped directly to the buyer once an Antique Firearm Buyer Certificate is signed and returned (we will send a copy with the invoice) except for NJ & MA where shipments must be made to an FFL.
