We have antique LC Smith hammerless sidelock shotgun Grade 1E. This gun has a 4 digit serial number, 1297, that two different refrence materials date to a production year of 1898. It has 30" damascus steel barrels choked full and modified (closer to a modern improved modified). The bores are in very good condition bright and shiny with no dents, bulges or rings. Chambers gauge as 2-3/4" and no special markings are present to indicate shorter chambers -  LC Smith Co 12ga guns were chambered 2-3/4" unless special ordered. The barrels are damascus steel stamped with the serial number on the flats and a 1E just behind the forearm iron lug. The serial number is stamped on the water table of the receiver, while the grade 1E is stamped on the side of the receiver under the left hand lockplate. The wood forearm is stamped with the serial number and has an ebony forearm tip. The finish has mostly gone to a gray patina with faint hints of the original case hardening remaining. LC Smith is hand engraved on both lockplates as is correct for the grade 1 guns. The left hand cocking lever (at the front of the receiver near the forearm) shows a brazed repair but functions correctly. The trigger pull are of similar weight The ejectors work when tested with dummy shells. The buttstock shows the acumulated dents, dings, scratches and wear commensurate with existing afield for 121 years but has no cracks or splits. The foream is in similar condition with the exception of one small chip just ahead of the forearm iron. The original gutta percha buttplate depicting two hunting dogs is worn but complete with no cracks or missing pieces. Due to the damascus barrels, we advise that the purchaser have the gun inspected by a competant gunsmith familiar with this type of firearm before firing and only use only use black powder or equivalent low pressure/recoil loads. These are readily available from a variety of vendors that cater to older shotguns. That being said, this action is tight, the barrels are on face and it was built by one of America's premier gunmakers in the heyday of hand craftsmanship.
Although this gun was built in 1898 and is classified under Illinois and Federal Law as an antique firearm, so as not to run afoul of state or local ordinances with a differing opinion about antique firearms, store policy requires it to ship to a FFL License holder. C&R Licenses are accepted and this firearm is definitely C&R eligible.

Buyer pays actual shipping. Insurance and faster shipping options available upon request.
