Classic double barrel shotgun favored by Confederate Cavalry during the Civil War. Comes complete with saddle ring!!!! 12 gauge sxs double with 19" barrels and a large period correct saddle ring attached to the left side pistol grip. Marked on the early front style lockplate "RICHARD" which was a name commonly used by assorted Belgium Gunmakers thru out the mid to late 19th century (Also "RICHARDS"). The barrels are marked "BELGIUM LAMINATED STEEL" and Belgium proof marks are found on the lower rear of the barrel and frame. Richard was a trade name used by manufacturer Henri Pieper of Liege, Belgium and were imported into the U.S. by various dealers from 1860 on. Was this one used in the Civil War?? Most likely and although it has early design features, we are unable to determine it's exact age. There is a serial number on the inside frame: 9300. Stock and forearm are solid, well retained and the metal has fairly well gone to a dark patina. Both hammers lock up and function correctly with the double triggers. While I wouldn't characterize the barrel lock-up as PERFECT, the play is minimal at worst (a dollar bill locks up tight between the barrel and frame!). I leave the final determination up to you. Certainly a sharp looking BAD BOY! Shipping will be 40.00 to the lower 48. No FFL required.E -mail me for more info if you need it. Use this e mail : EMPIREMIL@AOL.COM
