Da-019-A- (8445)-JJB-M1862 U.S. BRIDESBURG contract, .58 caliber infantry rifled musket, sporterized as so many of them were taken home after combat service, which were then altered and adapted to domestic use. Firms like Schuyler/Hartley & Graham and Bannermans bought thousands of them for sporterizing these obsolete muzzle loading muskets to match consumer demand, and many were sent west to the Indian trading posts for barter with the Indians, the gold miners, and older pioneers whom preferred the old ways. This specimen is in pretty nice condition, complete with a wood ramrod tipped in brass, and held against a fine steel under-rib with two ramrod tubes. Retains a nice original nipple designed for smaller percussion caps (cheaper, too) and the bore was drilled out to a smoothbore of .61 caliber (to handle both round ball and shot.) 34” barrel in fine smooth patina, equipped with a front bead sight. Marked on lock plate (worn, but visible). In a fine walnut original stock, and a pewter nose cap. Iron butt plate and trigger guard group, all fully functional. It’s a rare contract maker of the Civil War, well cared for, sound, overall length, 50 inches. As-is.SAFETY NOTICE: We do not sell firearms, only collectible antiques, if you shoot them it is at your own risk and we are not liable for anything you do.
