DA-019-E (10872)-JBB- M-1878 SWISS VETTERLI bolt action, tubular magazine, and repeating bolt-action rifle, literally the FIRST magazine-fed infantry rifle using a .41-rim fire, copper-metallic cartridge. Unique action, this early specimen features the finger spur on the trigger guard for better aim control. Fine walnut stocks, all sound, fully functional and complete. Very well marked, and matching serial numbers on the barrel and the receiver. All steel surfaces free of rust or pitting. (Dull patina prevailing finish), very fine rifled bore, retains both sling swivels and original cleaning rod. These were so well regarded that they continued in use. Virtually unchanged, until well into the 2nd World War, and were only discontinued with the obsolescence of big bore rim fire cartridges, when center-fire and smokeless systems were adopted universally. Many shooting clubs still use them today for their accuracy and flat trajectory. Overall length, 52”. All original, complete, as is. SAFETY NOTICE: We do not sell firearms, only collectible antiques, if you shoot them it is at your own risk and we are not liable for anything you do.
