This listing is for a 1955 No4 Mk2 Enfield that is in pristine, unfired, 99% condition. It is an Irish Contract Enfield (Serial Numbers between PF309348-PF359347. This one being PF337438), most of these were unissued or sat in a warehouse until they were eventually sold. This one was imported by Century Arms International. I bought this still in the wrap, I carefully removed the wrap and cleaned the rifle completely. It is in ready to fire condition but there are still small traces of cosmoline in some places. I also applied a very thin layer of hoppes gun oil to all metal parts of the rifle for protection from any corrosion. This could be a collectors piece, or an excellent hunting rifle. It comes with the spike bayonet. The bayonet sheath has surface rust but the blade is clean. There are a few scratches on the bolt handle most likely from its long time in storage. Here is the small article that is in the included owners manual. "Lee Enfield rifles served Britannia for more than half a century, including both world wars and innumerable skirmishes in between. They are among the most widely acclaimed of all military rifles in the world, and have been considered by many to have been the best bolt-action rifles on the planet during their stint in service, which stretched all the way into the 1950's. The No. 1 MKIII, No. 4 MKI and No. 4 MKII rifles all use detachable 10-shot box magazines, and are chambered for the 303. British cartridge. Barrel lengths are 25.3 inches, and overall lengths are 44.5 inches. No. 1 MKIII rifles weigh 8.6 pounds, while the No. 4 variants weigh roughly 9.1 pounds, depending on density of wood in the stock. The primary differences among these sub-models have to do with minor changes in the sights. The No. 1 MKIII rifle feature a protected post front iron sight and protected rear tangent type open rear barrel sight. The No. 4 variants also have protected front sight posts, but feature aperture rear sights. Other differences include minor modifications like changes in the mechanisms for bolt removal/ Lee Enfield rifles are cock-on-closing propositions, with the bolt locking lugs located aft on the bolt. The manual safety lever is located on the left rear of the receiver, and is in the "fire" position when rotated forward, or "safe" position when rotated to the rear. When in the "safe" position, the bolt handle is locked closed. The .303 British Cartridge is rimmed, and is suitable for most big game hunting in the world, except possible for the largest of dangerous game species - and even they have been dropped with this cartridge over the course of time: When in good condition, Lee Enfield rifles are quite accurate. Because of their weight, these rifles do not deliver objectionable recoil for most shooters." I accept Paypal or Chase Online transactions, the rifle will be shipped UPS ground (Buyer pays shipping) to an FFL or C&R holder in your area. Thanks for looking!
