DA-008-B-(10309)-JA- Early American frontier oyster/fisherman’s knife, ca. 1840, with the copper lanyard hoop intact. A chain or lanyard attached to that and the wrist prevented the loss of the knife if he dropped it in the water while shelling oysters or crabs, or splitting/gutting fish over the side. Razor sharp, coffin-shaped grips are fastened with 5 brass rivets. Stout steel 4 ½ “blade has a tang continuing into the handles all the way. Overall length 8 ¾ “. Very good used condition. All original, complete, as-is.
