This auction is for a Rare British Enfield SMLE No 1 MKIII Siamese (Wild Tiger Corps) .303 Rifle. This rifle is “Tiger SMLE” marked for (Wild Tiger Corps) a volunteer force of the Siamese Army; the Thai script above the tigers head says “MARK RAMA VI BE 2462” the kings name and Buddhist year 2462=1919. All types of this rifle were made in 1920 per the book by I. Skennerton, Page 173. There is an Import mark on the left side behind the receiver ring “GPI ST ALB VT” and forward of the safety is a partial stamp “ALB VT VT. It is marked “BSA” over the chamber and “BSA Co” on the receiver butt below the safety on left side. The rear sight elevator bar adjuster spring is non functional/missing.

The wood stock is in nice condition with a dark finish and some moderate signs of use, there is a crack in the stock on the underside near the trigger guard (seen in photos). The bore is worn and the muzzle is slightly belled. The finish is black paint and not original. The previous owner painted the metal and we do not know the condition of the finish under the paint. If it was mine, the mystery would be unbearable.

Only 10,000 rifles built all were BSA, most of these were destroyed by invading Japanese Army, the rest were heavily used in an inhospitable jungle climate and few remain, making this a very rare collectible firearm.
