Winchester - Model 1873 - Serial #59989 - Caliber 44-40 Manufactured in June, 1880, as a Carbine. Dealer shipped the Carbine back to the factory at a customer's request and received by the factory on 8/06/1880. The short carbine barrel was replaced with a 26" heavier octagonal barrel, measuring 1" from flat to flat. A plain trigger was installed and the saddle ring was removed. The rifle was shipped back to the dealer on 11/08/1880, and received on 12/14/1880. Dealer then mounted a "Beach" front sight and a Model 62B rear sight on the barrel of the new rifle. The original cleaning rod is in the stock. This particular Winchester is double lettered and has been examined and evaluated by both George Madis and Roger Quisenberry. Mr. Madis stated "This 1873 Winchester is an outstanding, untouched, 2nd Model, with a 26" octagonal barrel and rare sights". Madis and Quisenberry have graded this Winchester at 85% to 90% and valued it at $9,000. and $9,500. respectively. Please contact Michael @ 561-262-0311 or at with questions and offers.
