Appraised as follows: Optics / Sight : Front sight fixed (manufactured by Rock Ola), Rear sight is adjustable (manufactured by Standard Products with H within Shield marking). MFG Date: Barrel date is 6-1943 (usually these carbines were assembled within 3 months of the barrel date Stock: The lower stock is of black walnut, standard raw linseed finish as is the upper forearm. The base stock bears the .U. stamp on bothe obverse and reverse rear area indicating the Underwood acceptance. However the stock was manufactured by the Trimble Nursery and Furniture Co. of Rochester, N.Y., and berar their markings of the Trible-TN in the sling well. The mark of the National Postal Meter Co. apperas forward of the oberverse oiler and sling cut. The lower stock is parctically unblemished while the upper forearm bears usage marks with some minor dents and bruises as well as gass erosion markings around the exhaust porting Grade 85% Frame: The frame of the firearm or in the case of the M1 carbine, the receiver group, is in very good condition. The manufacturers's stamp under the rear sight is that of the Saginaw Steering Gear Co. in Grand Rapids, Michigan. The serial number of 3235480 falls into the 2nd group of production unit serial numbers assigned the plant for production from April through July of 1943. The receiver has maintained the majority of it's original finish Grade 95% Barrel: The barrel is stamped with the Underwood Manufacturing mark and the date of 6-1943. This is in keeping with the known production period of this carbine as Underwood was one of the known barrels used duing this production block. The barrel exterior is in very good condition with the exception of minor scratching just below the manufacturing mark. THe bore is excellent with no damage to the lands and grooves. The barrel is mounted using the type III band with the bayonet lug. It is marked SI and is of Inland Division of General Motors construction Grade in Present Condition: 90% Action and Mechanical condition: Mechanics and action are operational as new. The trigger group is in very good condition. THe magazine release bitton is the type III series and so marked with the capitial M. The safety is of the type IV group. Grade 90% Accoutrements: Sling and oiler is marked IN within a circle for National Postal Meter, sling is of the WWII type with the horseshoe tab. THe gun is accompanied by a GI carbine case marked US without manufacturers's markings on the inside and appeards to be post war. Grade: 85% Additional Notes: The Saginaw Group produced over a half million firearms for the war effort. The serial number of this particular weapon denotes that it was assembled during the 2nd production period taht overlapped the first production period. Suprisingly, the 2nd period guns were actually completed ahead of those of the first period. I have not dissassembled this firearms to check the produciton marks on the interior parts, but with the exception of the bayonet lug and the front sight, all of the visible markings match the assembly period for July of 1943. These firearms were in use by our military for an extended period and parts were often replaced by unit armorers. THis gun does not have the appearance of a later rework by the arsenals. It is correct for the period of production Value: 1800 This is a great looking and in great shape gun. Please contact us if there are any questions. Good Luck!!!
