This Antique Engraved J. Chaineux Twelve Shot Pin-Fire Double Action Revolver is quite rare. These revolvers were manufactured in the 1860s and early 1870s. Chaineux is known to have manufactured revolvers designed to fire up to 20 shots without reloading. This 12 shot example has attractive floral scroll engraving and is marked "J. CHAINEUX BREVETE" on the left side at the breech. A Liege proof is stamped on the rear of the cylinder.

There is an ejector rod on the right side, loading gate, and lanyard ring on the butt and fitted with checkered grips. It also has a triangular front sight and hammer notch rear sight. Overall length is 9-1/2" long, barrel length is 4- 3/4".

The metal surfaces, kept in the white, are mostly bright and have some light pitting on the barrel and shell extractor. Scattered blotching elsewhere. The bottom of the frame has some minor spotted rust. Double action only; the bore is dark. The markings and engraving patterns remain distinct. Firing mechanism works and indexes properly. Everything locks up tight. The grips are excellent with a few mild handling marks.

This Engraved J. Chaineux Twelve Shot Pin-Fire Double Action Revolver is In good working order and fine condition. A great looking collectible.
