This is an outstanding original tintype photo image due to it’s clarity and content. Our subject is a very young Civil War Union Artilleryman in uniform with a Colt Model 1851 Navy Revolver in his waist belt. He is seated on a stool and his McDowell Kepi which exhibits a 1st Artillery Insignia on a nearby table. His shell jacket buttons and hat insignia are expertly tinted in gold.

The image is vividly clear from all angles. This one is the size known to collectors as the sixth plate image. This means that the image measures approximately 2.75 inches by 3.25 inches in overall size. These tintype images were produced by applying the image to a thin sheet of tin, hence the name.

The image comes in a complete thermoplastic gutta percha case for display. On the sides of the case it has the floral and geometric designs. The case is in excellent condition.

Also, there is a Silver Coin Brooch or Pin with elaborate hand engraved designs and initials. This is an unusual brooch featuring a Seated Liberty Quarter Coin that has been converted to a brooch/pin by adding a ‘c’ clasp fold over pin back. And the reverse side features an engraved design that has initials that could be his or a sweetheart. It is about one inch diameter.

This is a great looking original tintype of a youthful Civil War Union solider, with a super clear image, in it’s original gutta percha case. The accompanying brooch might suggest that he was inspired by sentimental feelings regarding an unknown future.

This authentic tintype image of an armed Union soldier from the Civil War will make a solid addition to your collection.
