Colt made less than 50,000 of these between 1942 and 1943. The Commando is a World War 2 variant of the Official Police revolver, with a parkerized finish, visible tool markings, and no checkering on the trigger or cylinder latch. Most of these revolvers were purchased by the government and used by defense plant guards, police departments and security personnel of various government organizations. Some were used by the Navy and overseas by intelligence officers. Reportedly General Eisenhower carried a Commando. This particular Commando looks very close to the way it was when it left the factory some 70 years ago. It has a four inch barrel, parkerized finish, six shot cylinder and checkered grips. The revolver has the acceptance flaming bomb mark located on the left side of the frame that is an ordinance acceptance stamp indicating ownership acceptance by the U.S. government. Low serial number indicates 1942 MFG.
