DA-0014-B- (11520)-JJB- AUSTRO-HUNGARIAN M1854 JAEGER (Mountain troops) Two-Banded short Musket, in .60 calibers smooth bore. These fine lightweight guns were issued to border guards and rangers to patrol the mountain passes and wilderness posts. Fine workmanship, many were imported by both North and South in our own Civil War, as arms shortages were chronic for both sides, especially since these guns worked well with the .58 caliber American ammunition of the 1850’s and 1860’s. This specimen is an heirloom that came out of a GAR post after they all closed down for lack of surviving members. 32” barrel, full length 47”, features patent breech and nipple assembly. Surfaces have been blued and nickel plated for parade duty, retains both original sling swivels, but missing the front sight. Rear sight fine. Fine walnut one-piece stock. But all markings have been buffed off when it was refinished. Fine smooth bore quite clean. Original ramrod. Fully functional. A rare piece, highly decorative and remarkably good condition. All original, as-is.SAFETY NOTICE: We do not sell firearms, only collectible antiques, if you shoot them it is at your own risk and we are not liable for anything you do.
