JAPANESE T30 JINSEN - GREEN PAINT

During WW2 the Japanese utilized a standard Type 30 bayonet base for their rifles. Early designs were more complicated, and more difficult to make. As the war moved on, and resources became scarce, they simplified the manufacturing process to save time and raw materials. They even went to a wood scabbard to save metal.

This is a Jap Type 30, and is an early war production. It was made by Jinsen Rikugun Zoheisho Arsenal, and is a rather rare maker. It has the early war T30 characteristics of the hooked pommel, grooved blade, curved handle, and a steel scabbard. The most unusual part is the green paint on the scabbard, and dark red paint on the grips. This is not a finish that was recent. We have never seen one with the finish like this, and are still researching the significance.

The bayonet itself is an early war production, with a blued steel blade. The wood handles are solid and complete, and are in about perfect condition. The steel blade retains at least 60% of the original bluing. The blade has the original edge from the factory, and the manufacturers marks are sharp and clear. The scabbard is solid, and there is about 65% of the original green varnish or paint remaining.

If anyone has any data on the painting significance, please let us know. We have never seen one like this before.
