This is quite an unusual piece. It came out of Africa during the time we were fighting Ramel. These are known as Berber Tribesman Guns. Heavy alteration have been done to this firearm. The stock has been carved thinner, put lots of tacks (or nails in it). It looks like it was put together from scavenged parts. The serial numbers on the gun do not match. 19293 is the number on the barrel. One the right side of the rifle, by the rear sight is stamped S.1873 – a small diamond – large letter C. 1878 and an oval and crown. Below that is MA. One the left side of the receiver it has Mle 1866/74 with M80 below it. The bolt stop screw is missing. The bore is dark and pitted. I would not consider shooting this firearm, though it is probably okay. But rather hang it up as part of a WWII collection. The overall length of the firearm is 38.5”. Barrel is 20.25”. It looks as old as it is, well weathered. Deep dark chocolate brown. Comes with the sling that I received it with. I wish I had more details. All I know is that it did come out of Africa around the area of Egypt. True antique – No FFL required
