Støckel: J.J. Herman, Cheratte near Liege, 1839 - 1860,
receives between 1839 and 1860 several patents for revolvers
not marked but according to the patent drawing
and similar pictures on LittleGun.BE
made by J. J. Herman under-hammer pistol,
caliber .50 percussion smoothbore;
the grooves are for a device to screw in or out the barrels for loading.
Over and under / superposed pair of round 3" barrels,
 fine  engraved receiver,
barrels of brownish color, plain wooden grip.
Two pistons, one for each barrel,
but both barrels fire at the same time.
The screw behind the trigger is an uncommon safety.
There is a mandatory ELG  proof stamp in the engraving on the left side.
A rare pistol in fine condition.
