My gunsmith tells me this is an early 5 screw Victory model 38 caliber Smith & Wesson that was shipped back to the U.S. after WW2.(Maybe by Hy Hunter) He apparently did a lot of these. They were born with 4" barrels and he cut them to 2 1/4". Then they were buffed badly and nickled badly. The bore is still decent and the action works fine. This is ugly, but it will still make a good shooter. Throw it under the pickup seat. You can't hurt it. C&R or FFL
