LC Smith/Hunter Arms Side-Lock Hammerless side by side 12 gauge with auto ejectors manufactured in 1901. These “Pre 1913” shotguns were of high quality & are sought after by collectors & shooters alike. Marked: HUNTER ARMS CO MAKERS FULTON NY on the left barrel, ARMOR STEEL on the right barrel & L.C. SMITH on both side plates. Grade 00 – 12 gauge – 2 ¾” chambers – 30” barrels - my guess is choked full & extra full. This shotgun has auto-ejectors which was an option rarely purchased on a lower grade gun because of the cost. 1898 catalogs listed OO Grade at $37 plus another $13 for Auto-Ejectors; $50 was a lot of money in 1898 considering the average unskilled worker made $1.23 a day! This one needs a little TLC but these are great guns & are worth the time & effort. It has replacement walnut stocks; pistol grip, hard rubber butt plate, the LOP is 13 5/8” & 14 ½”. They are solid with no cracks with very few handling marks but do not fit perfectly & the forearm has had a repair. The forearm fits too tight which makes the action hard to open after firing otherwise the action is smooth as silk with a good lock-up & strong ejection. It has a tang mounted safety with a window to see the letters “SFE” stamped into the upper tang. The safety is on when in that position & will fire by moving the lever either forward or back which is correct for this model. The bluing on the barrel is bright & shiny thinning near the receiver from being carried & the case coloring on the receiver has faded away. The serial number 6394 is found on the receiver, barrel & forearm metal. This one needs a little tinkering to make it work perfectly again. It is a quality made 116 year old L.C. Smith & worth the effort. xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx.
