Burnside Model 1864 with the guide screw in the frame. .54 caliber taking a brass cone shaped cartridge fired with a separate percussion cap. Metal is smooth with a light patina and some light rust in places. The bore is very good with strong rifling and has been shot. There are traces of inspector's marks on the stock. Has a W7 carved on the left side of the stock. This carbine will make an excellent addition to any Civil War collection. References: 1. Flayderman's Guide ed. 9 pg. 617 - 618, no 9B-046 2. PROVIDENCE-R.I. , barrel; CAST STEEL 1864 , top of barrel near breech; W , breech box; BURNSIDE'S PATENT. / MODEL OF 1864 / 13512 (serial number), breech block; 13512 and 8044 , the letter W is stamped on many parts including the two primary parts of the breech block and the two main parts of the lever, the letter H is stamped on the following parts; butt plate heel, breech box (twice), rear sight base and breech box tang, The letter S is stamped on the sling swivel base.
