Type III Black Modern
Arsenal Bulgaria Bayonet

Circle 10 Model 6X5
Made in Kazanlak, Bulgaria
Unissued and Factory Mint

Not designed for the Model 74 24x1.5mm right-hand thread muzzle brake

The AK-47 rifle and its variants is one of the most employed combat small arms of the 20th century. As a consequence of this, a following has developed around the rifle and its accessories, which has spawned a devoted collector's community. Needless to say, these devices are also extremely cool-looking.

There are four recognized bayonet types and three identified scabbard types. In chronological order: The AK-47 Type I, AKM Type I, AKM Type II/Early AK-74, and AK-74 cover the bayonets; while the AK-47, AKM/AK-74 Steel Type, and AKM/AK-74 Plastic Type, describe the scabbards. Most recently, Arsenal Bulgaria has produced what could possibly be called a Model 47 Modernized Type III, or 6X5, for rifles without the Model 74 muzzle brake.

The design of the 6X5 was directly affected by reports from the field in Afghanistan. Consequently, the knife was redesigned in a way that made it a more effective combat knife, while also serving as a functional bayonet.

Although the military of Imperial Russia and the Soviets had always been enamored with the bayonet, design of the Type II all the way to the Type III were the first models substantiating the Soviet soldier's greater need for a general-purpose and combat knife rather than just a bayonet.

As can be seen in the photos below, the bayonet in this set follows the standard Model Type III style, or model 6X5, from Arsenal Bulgaria in Kazanlak, Bulgaria. It is brand new modern production for current issue rifles from Arsenal Bulgaria that have a standard AK-47/AKM configuration, and not the Model 74 setup with the 24x1.5mm right-hand thread front sight base.

These are quite rare, as very few have been imported into the United States.

The hanger is constructed of black webbing with a matching keep, all held together by two metal rivets. A steel snap system is used to bind the two keeps together. This is a unique setup, specific to this new modern configuration.

''E' and '1' proofs are stamped on the scabbard in white ink and are clearly visible, with the "Circle 10" logo crisp on the end of the device, near the wire cutter. The "Circle 10" is also found on the bayonet pommel, on the left mounting ear. Mold numbers on the scabbard are '1-2' and '2' on the pommel.

The overall condition of this set is factory mint and unissued.
