A nice S&W Hand ejector. The Military & Police Model of 1905 1st Change was built as a round or square butt K frame with 5 screws. Barrels of 4", 5", 6", and 6.5" were common. Serial numbers ran from 73251 to 146899 overlapping with the 1905, 2nd Change Model. 73,648 were manufactured between the 1st and 2nd Changes from 1906 to 1909. This example has the 5" barrel. Cylinder length is roughly 1.56". The difference between the 1st and 2nd Changes is that, on the 2nd Change Model, two dowel pins are found under the extractor star. This example has the round butt. Chambers have been tested with snap caps to confirm the revolver is chambered in .38 SPL. The grips are mother of pearl. Much of the bluing has worn over time, not surprising considering the gun is over 100 years old. However, there is almost no pitting and the bore looks to in excellent condition. The Smith’s markings are clear and legible, including the patent dates. Internally, the mechanisms are still tight and the 1905 still has a good double action pull. It has a light single-action pull. This revolver would make a nice addition to any Smith & Wesson collection.
