Excellent condition, all original and untouched WWI US Military Model 1917 S&W revolver in .45 acp caliber. This beauty is a very early production gun with the scarce and desirable "grooved or serrated" hammer and "concave" grips. Pistol is serial # 8246 with a matching frame, cylinder and ejector star. The inner frame and crane also have a matching assembly number. Gun has the early "GHS" inspector mark on the left side and a small "S4" inspector mark under the grip. Barrel is unumbered and unmarked on the bottom, may be an early variation. Hammer and trigger have a full case color. Metal finish is a full original blue that is better than 95%. Action is crisp and and tight, shows little use. Bore is bright and excellent with strong rifling. All markings are crisp and clear. Walnut grips have a tight fit and original finish, right grip is pencil matching numbered on the inside as is correct. This is one of the nicest S&W 1917 revolver I have ever seen, would be tough to upgrade. This all original and matching numbered early production gun with "serrated" hammer and "concave" grips will make an outstanding addition to a collection, a great display and a good investment.
