This auction is for 1 can of 3 rounds of 81mm TRUMP ammunition, for use in the M1, M29, and M252 81mm mortars. These 81mm rounds can also be fired in just about any other 81mm mortar out there, including the Soviet 82mm mortars (see additional info below in firing in the 82mm tube).

The 81mm TRUMP round is a Training, Re-Usable, Mortar Projectile that is fired from the 81mm/82mm mortar and "detonates" down-range upon impact. Click on the link below for a video demonstration of the 60mm TRUMP rounds (the 81mm functions in the same manner, but uses a 12ga blank in the fin assembly). The removable stainless steel nose fuze accepts a 20-ga shotgun blank that contains less than 109 grains of black powder (not included). This charge is initiated upon impact, and gives off a cloud of smoke and an audible report that can be heard up to a mile away! The removable tail fin assembly accepts a 12ga blank, which is used to launch the projectile from the barrel. We have the different 12ga and 20ga blanks for sale separately.

The round is extremely durable and can be fired dozens and dozens of times, reloaded, and re-fired. How many times the round can be reloaded and re-used, will ultimately depend on the terrain that the round is impacting. Desert topography in the western United States has very hard and rocky soil, which will cause more stress and potential damage to the round upon impact. Central and eastern US, has much softer soil, and is less likely to cause damage. The part most likely to get damaged is the steel fin assembly. We are located in western Tennessee, and we were able to fire/reload/re-fire the same round 150 times, with 100% reliability and no damage (only cosmetic scrapes). It is very important that each round, after each firing, be inspected for damage that would prevent safe re-loading and re-firing. Rounds that are damaged should not be fired.

We also offer these rounds for sale individually. This auction is for 1 can of 3 rounds, please take a look at our other auctions here on GunBroker to see the listing for the individual round.

As previously mentioned, these 81mm rounds can be fired out of 82mm mortars. When firing these rounds in an 82mm mortar, you will definitely want to use a Ballistic Obturating Ring (BOR) on the projectile. The BOR is a polymer composite split ring that slides into the groove on the projectile's mid-point (see photos). When firing a mortar round in an oversized bore, such as the 82mm, the propellant gases that are escaping around the projectile cause the BOR to expand 360° and ride against the bore of the tube. This creates a gas seal, and allows the projectile to generate considerably more pressure, thereby increasing the range of the projectile. In our testing of these 81mm rounds in 82mm tubes, we have found that the addition of the BOR to the projectile increases the range from 100-yards to 300-yards.....using the same lifting charge. In firing the rounds with the BOR, the ring is destroyed 90% of the time during firing. We sell additional BOR's here on GunBroker.

Regarding the TRUMP ammunition, the Firearms Technology Branch of the BATFE have inspected these rounds, and consider them to be destructive device ammunition, but the rounds themselves are not classified as a destructive device. The blanks used inside the round must contain 109 grains of powder, or less. If the powder quantity exceeds that amount, the round would be considered a destructive device and would be a violation of federal law. TRUMP ammunition is also available for 60mm mortars (see our other auctions). This ammunition is a restricted sale item, and requires two pieces of documentation to purchase: 1) A BATFE approved Form 1 or Form 4 in whatever caliber is being purchased (60 or 81/82mm), and 2) A copy of a valid state-issued photo identification, such as a driver's license. Prior to shipment, this documentation must be sent to us, otherwise the sale will be terminated. It is the buyer's responsibility to ascertain the legality of possession within his/her own state prior to purchase. The ammunition must be shipped to the address on the Form 1, Form 4, or the buyer's state-issued ID....no exceptions.

In the video below, you will see the 60mm TRUMP ammunition being demonstrated. The 81mm TRUMP ammunition functions in the exact same manner. The 60mm TRUMP rounds use a 20ga blank for firing, while the 81mm TRUMP rounds use a 12ga blank. Thanks for looking, and please ask all questions prior to placing your bid!
