Fees for Using GunBroker.com

Bidding / Buying

We offer a free membership that will allow you to bid on items right away. For security reasons, this option is only available to members who register with a paid, corporate, government or ISP email address. Other members may have to verify their identity with us. This verification process may include one-time fees for the verification process.

Selling

We charge no 'insertion' fees. There are two types of fees that may be incurred when you list or sell items on GunBroker.com. We charge a Final Value Fee that is assessed only if your item ends with a winning bidder. We offer some Optional Services that can be used to enhance the listing that must be paid for whether or not the item is sold. If you choose to use any of our Optional Services and the item does not sell it can be relisted free of charge using the same options.

To create a safe buying / selling environment, sellers must verify their identity with us. This verfication process is required in order to be able to sell and includes verification fees.

For any item that is won by one a bidder we assess a final value fee based on the selling price of the item. A sold item is one that is bid on and won by a bidder in accordance with our User Agreement. If an item does not sell, no Final Value Fee is assessed. In other words, if you create a basic listing (one that uses no Optional Services) and the item does not sell you owe us nothing. Click here for a full description of the Final Value Fee.

Our Optional Services are designed to make your auction listing stand out from the others. The services consist of priority placements and attention-getting features that help to get more bidders to look at and hopefully bid on your item. No other print or online classified ad or auction venue offers the package of priority placement and attention-getting options offered by GunBroker.com.

What's Free - We do not charge any 'insertion' fees for creating a basic listing. Basic listings are completely free unless the item is won by a bidder (sold items are assessed a Final Value Fee). When listing an item, the seller can decide on an item-by-item basis which of our optional services (if any) to use. Our basic listings are more powerful than the paid listings available on other sites or venues. Sellers can use HTML to create fancy listings. Sellers can take advantage of our automated picture upload facility to add pictures to their listings; if fact, we strongly recommend doing so. Basic listings are can be very effective and they contain the same information as their Showcase or Featured counterparts.

What's Not Free - We offer some optional services such as icons that appear to the left of the item in the category page, counters, highlighting, bolding and colored titles. We will also charge you to upgrade your listing to a Showcase Item or a Featured Item. We charge if you want to schedule the time an auction begins instead of launching it immediately. And, you will have to pay a Final Value Fee if the item is won by a bidder.

Payment

Each seller must place a credit card on file with us to be able to list items for sale. You can use Place a Credit Card on File on our For Sellers page to place a credit card on file or to update your card on file. Any fees you incur will be accumulated throughout a calendar month and then billed to your credit card on file on or about the 6th of the following month. For example, if you sell an item in January your credit card will be charged on the 6th of February.

If your credit card fails to authorize, you will not be able to list additional items until you use Place a Credit Card on File on our For Sellers page to update your card on file. If your card fails to authorize, your account must be paid promptly; past due users will be suspended from using the site until the balance has been paid in full.

Refunds

Optional service fees are non-refundable once used and must be paid for whether or not the item sells. Items that do not sell can be relisted with the same level of optional services with no additional charge. You must relist the item that did not sell by using our Bulk Relist Items function located on our For Sellers page. If you relist an item that was won by a bidder, the relisting will incur the same fees as the original listing.

If a bidder wins an item but does not complete the transaction, you can request a credit for the Final Value Fee plus the cost to relist the item at the same level of optional services. Showcase Listings

Showcase listings are the most powerful marketing tool our sellers can use. Showcase auctions are randomly displayed on our Home Page. Our Home Page is the most-visited page on GunBroker.com. Consequently, Showcase auctions will be seen by the largest audience of any of our auction types. When a seller lists an item, he can decide if he wants to upgrade the listing to our Showcase.

Featured Listings

Each category such as Rifles, Pistols, Shotguns and etc. contain two sections of auction listings. Featured auctions are listed at the top of each category, and are listed first in search results. Because the item is listed above other auctions, it will typically be seen by more bidders and will often draw more bids and command a higher purchase price. When a seller lists an item, he can decide to have that item listed in the 'Featured' section. In doing so, he will incur a small fee for that listing.

Highlight

Make your listing stand out from others in the category listings for a small fee! This option highlights your listing in yellow to make it stand out from the other listings.

Boldface Title

Consider using boldface text to make your item’s title stand out from the others in the category listings for a small fee!

Colored Title

Upgrade your listing by using color to draw a buyer’s attention to your title - you can choose to use red, green, or blue. A colored title is especially effective when combined with the boldface title option.

Thumbnail Image

A thumbnail image is a miniaturized picture of your item that is displayed to the left of your item's title when a bidder browses or searches our listings. Thumbnail Images are an eye-catching device designed to draw the bidder's attention to your listing.

Counter

A counter keeps track of the number of times an item has been viewed since being listed. Sellers can use counters as a way to gauge the interest bidders have shown in an item. They can also experiment with different item titles and upgrade features to measure the effectiveness of each variation.

Scheduled Auction

A Scheduled Auction is one where you select the start date and time for the auction instead of launching it immediately. Sellers can use this to enter auctions before they want them to be displayed so that they have the flexibility to enter the information when it is convenient for them.

Scheduled Auctions are an extra-charge optional service that we provide to our sellers to allow them more flexibility in creating and launching their auctions.

Subtitle

A Subtitle is additional text that is display below the Item Title on the search results pages. It is space that can be used to provide buyers more information regarding your auction, and it also improves your auction's visibility and increases its searchability.

QuickLook

A QuickLook is a preview of your listing that can be viewed directly from the search results page. It allows buyers to quickly view more pictures and information from your listing without having to view the entire listing.

Final Value Fee

A Final Value Fee is assessed if your item is sold. The Final Value Fee is assessed when the listing closes and is based on the price that the item is sold for. If the item is not sold (reserve not met or no bids were placed) there is no Final Value Fee. You can use our Final Value Fee Calculator to find out the fees associated with your item.

Here is how you calculate your Final Value Fee:

Take the first $25 of your final value and multiply it by 5%. If your item sold for $25 or less this is your Final Value Fee.
If your final value was more than $25, take the additional amount between $25.01 and $1,000 and multiply it by 2.5%.
If your final value was more than $1,000, take the additional amount above $1000 and multiple it by 1.25%.
Add up these amounts and that is your Final Value Fee.

For example, a $1500 item would cost:

$25 times 5% = $1.25
$975 times 2.5% = $24.38
$500 times 1.25% = $6.25
Total = $31.88

A $500 item would cost:

$25 times 5% = $1.25
$475 times 2.5% = $11.88
Total = $13.13
