The Rock River Arms Standard is close to the classic military look with a both a Standard A2 and a Standard A4 version. Each is 5.56mm NATO chambered for 5.56mm NATO and .223 Caliber, and each is a matte black 30+1 capacity semi-automatic AR-type built around a 1:9” twist ratio 20” chrome moly barrel. Let’s visit each model in order of increasing sophistication.

The Standard A2 is the most traditional one. For starters, it’s almost all black. The upper receiver is a forged A2-type upper crested by carrying handle. The lower receiver is a forged RRA LAR-15M that RRA uses on many of its other guns. There are then several more A2 components. The 20” chrome moly barrel gets a birdcage A2 flash hider with a 1/2"–28 TPI thread and an A2 front sight base.

The gun has matte black textured RRA overmolded A2 knee and boot-type polymer grip. Moving down, you get a flat trigger guard bridging the magwell to grip. Within is an RRA two-stage trigger.

The main difference between the Standard A2 LAR-15M and many other LAR-15Ms is the Standard A2 has a heavier fixed A2 stock instead of the more common collapsible RRA 6-Position Tactical CAR stock. You get sling swivels at the heel and under the front sight. The Standard A2 weighs 8.6 pounds and measures 39.5” overall. The totality provides an impressive 1 MOA accuracy at 100 yards. The gun comes standard with a 30-round mag.

Second, the Standard A4 is the same as the Standard A2 but has a forged A4-type upper receiver with no carrying handle but with a long MIL-STD-1913 Picatinny rail instead. This configuration shaves .4 pounds dropping total weight to 8.2 pounds. Everything else is the same.
