The Benelli M2 Field represents an impressive array of splendid 3+1 capacity all black or camouflaged 12-gauge and 20-gauge semi-automatic shotguns. Benelli offers a choice of 21”, 24”, 26” or 28” cryogenically treated hammer forged barrels. Overall length for each is 21.5” more than the corresponding barrel, meaning overall lengths are 42.5”, 45.5”, 47.5” and 49.5” respectively. The Crio choke tubes set includes cryogenically treated C, IC, M, IM, F chokes. The lineup’s weight ranges across 5.6 to 7.2 pounds with the shorter barreled 20-gauges on one end and the longer barreled 12-gauges at the other.

All are chambered to handle 2 ¾” and 3” shells and wear a red bar front sight. The versatile rear sight can be adjusted for windage and elevation. Almost all have a well-balanced 14 3/8” length of pull though there are a 26” 12-gauge and a 24” 20-gauge with a 13 1/8” LOP. For the 12-gauge models, almost all have a 1-3/8" drop at comb and a 2-3/8" drop at heel. All 20-gauge models have a 1-1/2" drop at comb and a 2-1/4" drop at heel. The 26” 12-gauge with the 13 1/8” LOP has a 1-3/8" drop at comb that slopes to a 2" drop at heel.

You can’t go wrong with the color schemes because they all look great. The all black gun includes a black synthetic stock, anodized black receiver, and a matte blued barrel. Naturally, the rib vent mounted atop graceful arches, the forend, trigger guard, trigger, etc., are also all black.

If you don’t want all black, then camo choices include Mossy Oak Shadow Grass Blades, GORE OPTIFADE Timber or Realtree Max-5. These cover the receiver, forend, stock, rib vent and forend cap but leave the ejection port, trigger guard, trigger, cheek rest and butt pad black.

Naturally, being a Benelli, the gun is full of thoughtful features. For instance, the bolt safety at the back of the trigger guard has a red warning band around the safety. Additionally, you can get models for left-handers. There is a drop and cast kit that comes standard so you can optimize your gun to best suit you.

Benelli M2 shotguns have several stand-out features such as the Inertia-Driven System, ComforTech recoil reduction system and AirTouch tactile systems that dimple the pistol grip and the Crio System of cryogenically treating barrels and chokes.

The gun’s engine is its Inertia-Driven System. This timeless piece of technology has been around five decades for good reason. It’s a three-part system comprised of the inertia spring, bolt body and rotating bolt head. It keeps the gases used to cycle the system in the barrel, preventing fouling elsewhere and delivering fast, reliable, cycling for years or even decades. The system even strengthens the lockup and never needs adjusting.

ComforTech uses redesigned cheek rests and buttpads to mitigate felt recoil by roughly half of what competitors typically deliver.

The semi-automatic M2s are durable and light. Despite their long, elegant proportions, they are also fast-handling and remain a popular standard by which other semi-automatic shotguns are measured.
