The full-size Beretta Px4 Storm double-action/single-action (DA/SA) .45 Auto / .40 S&W / 9 mm semi-automatic pistol is an impressive revelation of clever thinking, accuracy, durability and features. It has been around since the mid-2000s. At heart is its short-recoil rotating barrel action that mitigates upward kick making this gun remarkably flat-firing, fast recycling and quite enjoyable at the shooting stand.

The .40 S&W has 10-round and 14-round magazine options. The .45 ACP has 9-round and 10-round magazines. Finally, the 9 mm has 10-round and 17-round magazines. The standard color scheme is matte black, but it can also be had with a stainless-steel slide on a matte black frame.

The one main upgrade is tritium sights instead of the standard white 3-dot dovetailed sights.

Regardless of caliber and other configuration choices, the full-size Px4 Storm features sleek concealed carry Italian styling, modular design, interchangeable backstraps, polymer frame construction, a single-slot Picatinny rail under the muzzle, and an emphasis on having few parts for increased reliability.

The snag-free design permits easy holstering. The sights are low-profile. The various contours are softened with gentle curves. The slide has narrow diagonal grip serrations at front and back, but a particularly nice touch is the way the slide’s flanks have a diminishing chamfer from front to back. This results in a narrow slide at top front and cuts the slide’s visual bulk.

The gun has a medium beavertail and a nice convex curve to the trigger guard’s underside. The frame is chamfered above the trigger making finger movements easier and more intuitive. Even the grip’s frontstrap is curved back toward the flanks. The grip has beautiful diamond hatched raised texturing on both frontstrap and backstrap.

Key dimensions: the barrel is a neat 4.0” long. The gun is 5.51” tall, 1.42” wide across its ambidextrous thumb safety, and the sight radius is 6.02”. Overall length is 7.68” for the .45 ACP and 9 mm versions while it’s 7.55” for the .40 S&W models. Weight ranges from 27.7 to 28.2 ounces depending on model.

Developed with military and police use in mind, the snag-free Px4 is even NATO certified. But it was also developed for self-defense and home-defense. Safety features abound and include an automatic firing pin block and ambidextrous red dot manual safety.
