This latest generation of Bren, the Bren 2MS which was developed with demanding and exacting specs for the Czech military, arrives in the US in pistol form with multiple barrel lengths and two chamberings. it would be easy to just improve on the original, but the Bren 2 is a clean-sheet design.

The most noticeable of the many changes is the weight loss of this gun coming in at a mere 5.86 lbs. The trimmed-down aluminum receiver and lower made from carbon fiber-reinforced polymer, makes for a lighter but still incredibly tough and reliable gun making the Bren 2 MS an easier to carry and substantially handier for quicker action. The reciprocating charging handle has been replaced with one that stays stowed in the forward position until it is needed.

There are a few additions: the AR-style bolt catch/release system is mirrored on both sides of the firearm, as well as the catch/release nestled into the front of the trigger guard. The Bren 2 Ms in its pistol form comes with a flush rear plate that can attach an AR-style buffer tube to install an arm brace, cheek rest, and other pistol-stabilizing devices. Those of you who prefer to SBR, a Carbine buffer tube and stock can be installed or the entire rear plate can be removed and replaced with a factory folding and adjustable stock.

The Bren 2 MS is chambered in 223 and 7.62×39, and each one is available in several barrel lengths making for a total of 6 variation. AR-15 style magazines are used for 223 variants, whereas in 7.62, the factory’s magazines are used to ensure a last round hold-open and a consistent feeding. All variants can be swapped to different barrel lengths (8, 9, 11, and 14 inch) and chamberings along with a modular forend that can be swapped to different lengths. The standard Mag capacity is 30 rounds.
