About the Manufacturer
Colt’s Manufacturing Company was founded in 1855 and headquartered in Hartford, Connecticut. Its founder, Samuel Colt, designed the first commercially viable revolving mechanism that pushed the firearm industry from single-shot to multi-chamber. Colt’s Manufacturing Company is responsible for the Single Action Army and the Colt Python, which are among the longest-standing military and law enforcement handguns in the world, and make appearances in many Western films.
Colt Revolver background
The Colt revolver has a multiple-chamber revolving cylinder allowing the user to fire without reloading. Although the first guns with revolving multi-chambered cylinders date back to late 16th century Europe, they were far too expensive to reproduce, and it wasn’t until Samuel Colt’s design that the Colt revolver could be mass-produced. The Colt Single Action Army, known as “The Gun That Won The West,” was used by famous and infamous figures such as Theodore Roosevelt, Buffalo Bill, Wyatt Earp, Pat Garrett, and Billy The Kid.
