The Franchi Instinct L and Franchi Instinct LX layer infuse Italian styling onto 12-gauge, 20-gauge and, for the LX, 28-gauge, over/under break-open vented rib shotguns. Instinct shotguns are chambered in 2 3/4" and 3”. They have elegant accent contours, nice satin walnut, glossy barrels, a thick buttpad and gold trigger that matches the subtle INSTINT L receiver labeling. The result is intuitive elegance entrenched in rich tradition.
Of course, these guns have great features such as ejectors rather than extractors. With extractors, spent casings stay in the gun but are in easy reach. With ejectors, the empty casings fling free. And if you’ve fired one and break open the gun, only that spent casing is ejected while the unfired cartridge remains in the gun.
The Instinct’s standard barrel selector is ergonomically integrated into the tang safety permitting you to determine which barrel to fire in any order. If you break open the gun, the auto-safety engages automatically!
The Instinct has no mid-rib between the two barrels. This absence allows the barrels to cool faster (as there is more surface area), and the barrels can expand and contract independently of one another as well. The top barrel is crested by a vent rib.
The base Instinct L comes in 12-gauge and 20-gauge. Both have 28” long barrels and measure 45.5” overall. The 12-gauge is 7.0 pounds while the 20-gauge tips scales at 6.6 pounds. The guns come standard with IC, M and F choke tubes. Extended choke tubes are also available as options.
No matter your choice, you’ll get a red fiber optic front sight, gloss blued metal finishes and Franchi’s A-Grade satin walnut Prince of Wales profile stock. The guns have beautifully executed checkering on the forend and on the grip. Particularly compelling is how the forend hatching continues underneath to the other side. Many guns have hatching on the forend that is on either side of the forend that does not connect underneath.
The upscale Franchi Instinct LX model has AA-Grade satin walnut, more gold embellishments, a Schnabel forend, etc. It’s available in 12-gauge, 20-gauge and 28-gauge. It comes standard with extended choke tubes. All three have 28” long barrels and measure 45.5” overall. The 12-gauge is 7.0 pounds, the 20-gauge is 6.6 pounds, and the 20-gauge is just 6.0 pounds.
