The medium size Kahr ST9 is a single-stack, striker-fired, 9 mm 8+1 semi-automatic from Kahr Arms of Greeley, Pennsylvania.

The ST9 has two attractive models. The standard model has a stainless steel slide, white 3-dot sights and a matte black polymer frame. A second model is the ST9 TIG Limited Edition honoring wounded warriors and named after noted Marine John “TIG” Tiegen. Only 1,000 of these ST9s were made. The model has a black Cerakote slide finish, a TIG logo and a John “TIG” Tiegen signature. But the most visually arresting aspect is the frame’s rather marvelous reptilian dark white, gray and black camouflage by Kryptek Camo. This camouflage covers the entirety of the frame including the inside of the trigger guard.

The slide has front serrations, the slide markings are engraved and the black polymer frame has a three-slot under-muzzle Picatinny rail. The CM series has only one magazine instead of the three that come with the pricier PM series and it has conventional rifling instead of the PM’s match grade polygonal rifling. The slide stop is injection molded instead of being machined. And finally the front sight is pinned instead of adjustable.

Those are the differences. Now let’s cover what the ST9’s assets. The ST9 is small, thin and, thanks to its polymer frame, very light. It’s powerful yet still retains a low-felt recoil and is comfortable.

Height is 4.0”, width is only .90” while overall length is 6.5". The ST9 only weighs 18.5 ounces unloaded while the empty magazine weighs another 2.1 ounces.

The .90” wide slide is made of 416 stainless steel. Inside is a 4.0” barrel with a 1 to 10” right-hand twist.

We already covered the front sights but the rear sight is dovetailed into the slide.

The slide stop lever is molded. Both it and the circular magazine release are on the gun’s left hand side. The standout design element is the semi figure-8 trigger housing around the forward tilted crescent trigger. The housing has two indents above the trigger into the frame and a slight indent in the bottom of the trigger guard.

The gun’s safety comes from its double-action trigger and its firing pin safety. There’s no thumb safety.

The frame is polymer. The flattened pyramid grips on the frontstrap and backstrap are convincing and molded directly onto the grip. The two grip sides are textured with the K (for Kahr) logo in the middle and are also molded directly onto the grip.

Kahr ST9s come standard with a pair of flush-fitting stainless steel 8-round magazines.
