The SAR USA SAR 9 is an affordable 9x19 mm striker-fired, semi-automatic, alloy steel slide on polymer frame pistol. It’s imported by SAR USA and made by Sarsilmaz Turkey. Sarsilmaz is a private arms manufacturer that’s the exclusive provider of pistols for the Turkish Military Police and the Turkish Army, which is NATO’s second largest after that of the United States. The company also makes a wide variety of aerospace industry components.

So back to the feature-rich SAR 9. It’s a 15+1/17+1 single-action gun. It comes in black, Safari (tan), Bronze and Platinum. There is also a stainless slide on black frame color combination.

The gun is replete with safety features: ambidextrous safety lever (thumb safety), firing pin safety/firing pin block, drop safety and trigger safety.

The SAR 9 slide is laser machined of alloy steel with 13 nicely chiseled front and rear diagonal serrations per side. Atop it are fixed front and rear low profile combat sights.

The forged alloy steel barrel is 4.4” long, height is 5.5” and overall length is 7.6”. The width is 1.4” across the thumb safety. The result is a gun that only weighs 27.8 ounces.

It also features a three-slot Picatinny rail is on guard underneath the recoil spring housing.

The grip has three different sizes of interchangeable back straps with different swells and three different sets of grip side panels. The grip front has three finger grooves. The grips are nicely textured and have a quasi-spider web motif.

The trigger guard has a deep undercut. The forward part of the guard is serrated and has a negative cant. Housed within is a safety trigger. At back of the trigger area is a red striker status indicator. The magazine release is a bit unusual with a rounded corner rectangle that helps this gun stand out a tad in a bazaar of similarly styled striker fired pistols.

There are six SAR 9 models. The aforementioned specifications/dimensions are for the standard SAR 9. The other five models differ as follows:

The SAR 9T lacks the thumb safety, so it’s only 1.25” wide. The SAR 9 METE has the SAR 9’s specifications except it shaves an ounce off the weight, which comes in at 26.4 ounces. The techie SAR 9X also shares the specifications except it has four tall front serrations that are lightening ported. The looks are superb, and the benefit is that the gun comes in .3 ounces lighter at 27.5 ounces.

The SAR 9C is compact and thus smaller with its 4.0” barrel, 7.2” overall length, 5.1” height and 26.8 ounce weight. The compact dimensions restrict usage to the 15-round magazine. Finally, the large size SAR-9 SPORT is bigger in each dimension. It has a 5.2” barrel, 5.9” height, 8.3” overall length and weighs 29.9 ounces. The larger size permits a 19-round magazine.
