The Weatherby Vanguard Modular Chassis is the answer to the question of what would happen if Weatherby, long known for making flat firing rifles, mated its lauded Vanguard platform to a modular aluminum chassis? The result is a powerful, high-quality arm that is accurate, functional and attractive.

The Vanguard Modular Chassis can be had in .223 Rem, 6.5 Creedmore or .308 Winchester models.

Connecting the major components is a CNC machined, hard-anodized chassis made of lightweight but very strong 6061 aluminum. Under the barrel is a long structural accessory rail with holes spaced to accommodate Magpul L3 and Magpul L5 Picatinny rails with seven and 11 slots respectively. And of course, it makes an excellent bipod mount.

The 20” long free-floated #3 contour barrel is cold hammer forged, bead blasted and given a blued finish. It has a 1/2"x28 TPI thread for .223 Rem ammunition and a 5/8”x24 TPI thread for 6.5 Creedmore and .308 Winchester options.

Further back, the bolt sleeve is fully enclosed for safety and shortened for weight reduction. The machined bolt body is one-piece and fluted. It’s also gas ported for safety. Speaking of which, the gun has a three-position safety.

The bolt action has an integral recoil lug, which increases costs, but also means fewer parts and, theoretically, less opportunity for extraneous movement between the joined pieces.

The gun is literally backed up by a fully-adjustable skeletonized Luth-AR MBA-1 butt stock. The versatile MBA-1 permits adjustment of cheek riser height and length-of-pull via a pair of knobs. It has multiple sling attachment points and even molded pockets for QD cups.

Moving down, the gun has an aggressively raked overmolded Hogue grip with doted texturizing and three deeply contoured finger grooves for optimized hold, placement and comfort. Just in front of it is the gun’s two-stage match quality curved trigger. It’s adjustable but comes factory set to 2.5 pounds of pull. It has crisp, clean, breaks. The trigger sits in a large rounded rectangle housing / trigger guard.

The gun comes with a black 10-round MDT high-strength fiberglass polymer detachable magazine.

All these components combine to give the compelling Weatherby Vanguard Modular Chassis its sub-MOA rating, meaning that given factory or premium ammunition, it can shoot a group of three rounds within an inch at up to 100 yards.
