The Winchester Model 101 is a lineup of over a dozen 12-gauge over/under shotguns that include the Model 101 Deluxe Field, Model 101 Deluxe Field Light, Model 101 Deluxe Field Maple, Model 101 Sporting, Model 101 Pigeon Trap, Model 101 Pigeon Trap Adjustable Comb, Model 101 Full Coverage Mossy Oak Duck Blind, etc. Regardless of which you get, you have splendid styling, excellent construction and a product you can be proud of for its aesthetics and its performance.

Let’s sample a few models.

For starters there is the Winchester 101 Light. The aluminum alloy receiver has a nice nitride finish. The 26” high gloss steel barrels back up into a 3” chamber that’s chrome-plated to combat wear and tear. The top barrel is crested by a ¼” wide vent rib, and atop it is an ivory bead. The high-gloss finish Grade II/III European Walnut stock is splendidly pleasing with detailed 20 lines-per-inch checkering that looks great and provides the grip you want without being too aggressive.

The stock’s drop at comb is 1 3/8” and the drop at heel is 2 3/8” while length-of-pull is 14 1/4” and overall length is 43”. The medium length helps constrain weight to a very maneuverable 6.0 pounds. A 28” long barrel version of the same is 45” long overall and weighs 6 pounds 4 ounces.

The gun comes with a T-wrench and a trio of Invector-Plus Flush choke tubes that include Improved Cylinder, Full, Modified (IC, F, M). Moving down, the high-gloss steel trigger guard is eye-catching and within it is a brushed polish steel trigger.

And for the other end, Winchester provides an excellent White Line Pachmayr Decelerator recoil pad. Its stippled texture gives it exceptional traction / anti-slip properties while its skeletonized structure makes it recoil-absorbing!

The new for 2021 Model 101 Deluxe Field Maple 12-gauge with either a 26” or 28” barrel has a AAA-Maple forearm and stock. The maple wood is far lighter than the more traditional walnut. This gives the gun a more contemporary, almost Scandinavian, look. The checkering is 18 LPI, and it weighs 6 pounds 12 ounces. It is otherwise similar in dimensions, chokes and other materials to the Winchester 101 Light.

There is also a Model 101 Deluxe Field that has a walnut forend and stock that weighs 6 pounds 12 ounces, but is otherwise very similar to the Model 101 Light.

The Model 101 Pigeon Trap (Adjustable Comb) is a 30” or 32” barrel 12-gauge with a 2 ¾” chamber. Overall length is 47 5/8” or 49/58” respectively. Length of pull is 14 5/8” and the stock’s slope is slightly different with a drop at comb of 1 ½” and drop at heel of 2 3/8”. The two models weigh 7 pounds 8 ounces and 7 pounds 10 ounces respectively. They come standard with a trio of Invector-Plus Signature choke tubes that include Extra Full, Full, Improved Modified (EF, F, IM) and a TruGlo Fiber Optic sight. The barrels are gorgeously ported to mitigate felt recoil and manage barrel rise. The receivers are nicely engraved. They are otherwise similar to the Winchester 101 Light. There is also a non-adjustable comb model (fixed stock) that is slightly more affordable.

Though Winchester is about as All-American a name as there is, Winchester 101 over/under 12-gauge shotguns are Made in Belgium.
