Available for the first time in decades, this military ordnance protective wrapping material was designed by a special commission during World War II to protect and preserve firearms and munitions during shipping. It was designed to provide corrosion and rust prevention for items during transport through the most harsh environmental conditions such as sea salt, extreme temperatures and extreme humidity. This is the material that all of your 1911s and similar pistols were originally wrapped with in their kraft boxes as well as Garands and M1 Carbines among many others. Spare parts and magazines were also packed in this material. Here is an opportunity to package your guns and parts as they were when they originally left the arsenals as well as preserve and protect them for years to come. Items so wrapped are still found today in pristine condition. This is actual military surplus and has not been manufactured for many years. Two variations are available. The tan color material is a fine cotton mesh fabric layer laminated to a fine poly film and impregnated with a high adhesion, specially formulated wax. It sticks to itself and is moldable. It holds firmly but pulls off easily with no effort. It is reusable, waterproof, greaseproof and will not tear. If your gun is well oiled it will leave no residue. If the metal is dry, it will leave a protective wax coating that wipes off easily with an oily rag. The other version is a dark, olive drab green creped paper material. Its a heavyweight paper that is saturated and coated with the same protective wax formulation. It behaves similarly to the cloth material but is a little stiffer and not quite as sticky. It is tear-able but still grease-proof and waterproof and provides the same optimal corrosion protection. Both materials were used interchangeably during WWII and in subsequent years.
