Webley Mark VI Service Revolver; 1917 Birmingham, England Production/British Issue; .455 Webley/Eley

Excellent matching & unaltered WWI-issued Webley Mk.VI...this revolver was manufactured at the Birmingham factory during 1917 and subsequently issued into service with a British unit, likely deployed on the Western Front. A textbook example, the gun has standard features, including a massive 6" octagonal barrel, and correct markings, which include no import mark, no export mark, and no late commercial proofing. In addition to matching numbers, martial proofs, and Webley address, the gun features cancelled Broad Arrows on the left of the frame, which identify this revolver as having been sold out of service prior to the Second World War. Remaining in-the-white, these marks further identify the blued finish as service-original, and the weapon may have purchased directly by the soldier that carried it during the First World War. Mechanically strong with an excellent bore, the gun does show honest wear in the form of faded finish and a patch of superficial oxidation on the right of the frame, with unbuffed legends, visible, clean machining marks and no rust or pitting on any metal surface, this wonderfully original Mark VI is graded as excellent. Always in great demand on the market, Webleys that were not commercially imported and altered, or "shaved" are becoming scarce, and this textbook, 1917-dated Mk.VI-still chambered in .455 and in condition that would be difficult to improve upon-would be an exceptional addition to any advanced collection.

Condition

Near Excellent, with no sign of refinish, rebuild, refurbishment or restoration. The factory blue displays even fading, remaining right at 50%, and the only notable blemish is a patch of oxidation on the right of the frame between the grip and hammer. No rust or pitting is present, nor any import or export mark, with all legends unbuffed. The markings include standard British inspection proofs, Broad Arrows, and canceled Broad Arrows, and the numbers are matching on all numbered components. The hard rubber(volcanite) grips are in very good condition, having scuffs and wear to the checkering, an unmarred screw head, Broad Arrow property marks, and no cracks, chips or repairs. Mechanically flawless, the revolver locks up tightly, indexes properly and displays fine action. The bore-bright, clean and free of rust, pitting, frost or oxidation with superb, unfaded rifling-is graded as excellent.
