History: This example of the highly collectable Smith & Wesson Model 1891 3rd Model is a cased set with two barrels made by Smith & Wesson under the direction of Mr. Charles S. Howard for his first wife, Fannie May Smith-Howard. Charles S. Howard, an American businessman, was not only the most successful Buick salesman of all time, but also the owner of the ever famous race horse named Seabiscuit. Mr. Howard’s humble beginnings of a car dealership rose to fame as a result of the historical 1906 San Francisco earthquake. The vehicles from his dealership were some of the only running, and accessible automobiles around, and Mr. Howard so graciously lended the vehicles to the city in order to expedite and assist in their rescue efforts in a time of great despair. Mr. Howard went on to own arguably one of the most famous thoroughbred race horses to ever live - Seabiscuit. Upon the dissolution of his first marriage with Fannie May Smith-Howard, Charles took this gun back from her out of anger, and gave it to his beloved friend Mr. Walter E. Dean for safekeeping. Upon his death on June 6th 1950, Mr. Dean was still in possession of this firearm. The widow of Mr. Dean eventually would sell this firearm to the current owners father, Mr. Walter Milligan in 1961 for a total price of $56.00, with the original sale paperwork included in the sale of this auction. Please see details of the firearm below.
