Here is an early example of the 5.6x53mm XM110 SPIW (Special Purpose Individual Weapon) Cartridge in the green fiberglass puller sabot configuration. Headstamped “WCC 63”, this is one of the earliest single flechette (tiny steel dart) rounds from this ill-fated project of our US military in the late 50’s into the early 70’s. The XM110 used its movable primer to unlock the gun mechanism and is one of the most complicated of the rounds in the SPIW series. An illustration from Blake Stevens’/Edward Ezell’s book “The SPIW The Deadliest Weapon That Never Was” shows the internal construction of the round including the dimples in the case wall to retain the primer. Case has a few areas of age darkening. A real conversation piece for the advanced US military ammo collector. Thanks for looking, and please email us with any questions PRIOR to bidding. Winning bidder pays $15 shipping (UPS insured). Post Office money order assures quick shipping; other checks are accepted, but must clear. Email us by clicking on “ask seller a question" above if you’d like to get our current list of Colt memorabilia, Colt Experimental Ammunition or Worldwide .223 (5.56mm) single specimens (mostly Viet Nam era and earlier).
