NO C&R WITHOUT PRIOR APPROVAL…Interesting old Smith and Wesson .38/44 "Heavy Duty" police revolver shipped 18 March of 1936 to Babcock, Hinds, & Underwood Co. in Binghamton New York for the Johnson City Police Department. One of 12 revolvers, the copied original invoice shows factory rollmarks corresponding to each piece, this one being "No. 2 Capt. J.C.". Robert Teuchtler was promoted to Captain of the JC PD not long before this revolver was ordered, and served in that capacity for many years. As such, this revolver was without question his duty sidearm during his period of service. There are many mentions of him in the JC newspapers of the 1920s-40s, and I've added a photo of him to this listing provided by a gracious fellow S&W collector. As for the revolver itself, chambers have NOT been modified to accept .357 ammunition. It shows natural carry wear and looks to have been blued without buffing beforehand, with the color being slightly off from original but with all markings remaining nice and sharp. Grips do not match. This S&W should make a fine addition to a pre-WW2 law-enforcement duty weapon collection, and being able to identify it by-name makes for a very scarce piece that should provide for much interesting follow on research.

Please see my other auctions. If you send me a question and do not get a reply in 48 hours, check your "spam"/junk email folder, as I respond to all messages received. TERMS::::::: Postal Money Order or cashier's check (along with FFL) expected within seven days of auction close. Post-1898 C&R HANDGUNS MUST BE SHIPPED TO AN 01, 02, or 07-FFL until the USPS changes their regulations. Sorry. Only legal alternative is common-carrier air shipping and it is not cheap, so take this into consideration. Do not gripe about this, I know it’s dumb, they aren’t my rules, and the fact that other dealers will break the law is not reason for me to do so. I can ship FedEx 2-day to C&R holders in qualifying jurisdictions, but be advised it will be higher than the Priority Mail price quoted in the listing. Happy to answer questions on this topic BEFORE a bid has been placed. Please know that as the buyer it is your responsibility to coordinate with the dealer on your end and ensure a copy of the license is forwarded to me for shipping. Shipping price quoted is for lower 48, and covers professional packing, all necessary shipping materials, FFL transfer paperwork (including CA DOJ process if applicable), signature confirmation for firearms, and full insurance for purchase price. Insurance may be covered by an alternate provider and NOT reflected in the shipping label price appearing on your parcel. Due to a very full and frequently erratic schedule, local pickup is not available. I typically list new auctions on Sunday evenings, so please check back often. I reserve the right to end the auction at any time until a qualifying bid is entered; if you are interested, please bid early. Depending on work schedule, I am typically able to ship 2-3 times per week. I will gladly post feedback on all transactions as soon as it is left by the buyer. I reserve the right to relist an item if Gunbroker goes offline during the final 24hrs of the auction. It is your responsibility to know your state and local laws. By bidding you assume full responsibility and liability for the safe handling and use of this firearm, and acknowledge that it is the buyer's responsibility to have the firearm checked by a competent gunsmith prior to use.
