This original Civil War Union Infantry Model 1855 Cartridge Box was made for the 7th New York Regiment, circa 1855-1860.

The box is made of tarred leather with an impressive brass “7th New York Plate”. It measures about 6-3/4” high x 7-3/4” long x 1-5/8” wide. The beautiful brass plate, with the number “7” superimposed over “NY”, measures 2-3/4” wide x 1-3/4" high. There is a large cartouche under the flap which is difficult to read. On the left top of the rear is an area of 1-1/2” where the stitching is undone.

The leather is soft, but is becoming firm with age; the brass finial, leather closure tab, and both belt and sling straps are present. No tins. All remain completely intact.

This Cartridge Box is in great condition, and looks fantastic in a Civil War collection.
